With Doctor Who’s (Whose?) 50th anniversary fast approaching, making it the longest running and most successful sci-fi series of all time (according to the Guinness Book of World Records, which I will take as definitive), I thought it might be an idea to take a look at the most essential of all ingredients in this melting pot of British success, the Doctor’s companion.
The latest to join the Eleventh Time Lord is Clara Oswin Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, who is taking to the role as sassy sidekick quickly. Check her out in the most recent episode The Bells of Saint John here –
She commented recently that during filming the new season, “you’re always running – either away from something or towards something.” Running is one of the essential job specs of being the Doctor’s companion, along with being adventurous, curious, funny, brave, and just an all-round amazing chick, not to mention a sartorial genius.
Clara is just the latest in a long line of impressive companions, a few of which I’ve included in a sweet photo collage above, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Steven Moffat brings to the Doctor’s table in this jubilee year.
